With a focus on sustainability, resilience, and efficiency in the processing of vegetables and fruits and the cooling and storage of food products, the brand new Fruechte Boqoui facility incorporates advanced energy systems, seamless workflows, and innovative design principles. This unique project fully reflects STM Design & Build’s commitment to excellence.
The engineering team was integral to every stage of the Fruechte Boqoui project, from initial design to the final turnkey delivery. In close collaboration with the architectural team and STM, our engineers ensured the facility met all technical requirements while adhering to food safety standards. We were responsible for selecting and implementing high-quality, sustainable materials, and engineering systems that supported both functionality and precision. The project’s hillside location and elevated foundation posed challenges that our engineers expertly overcame.
Our engineering approach was centered around the specific needs of the facility: the processing, cooling, and storage of fresh produce. We designed and implemented the engineering systems to support efficient workflows, such as the integration of column-free production spaces, hygienic ceramic flooring, waste separation rooms, and advanced refrigerated zones. Each of these elements was meticulously engineered to meet rigorous industry standards and ensure optimal hygiene and productivity.
Sustainability and energy efficiency were key priorities in the engineering solutions we provided. We implemented high-quality PIR insulation throughout the facility, with varying thicknesses for the roof, walls, and floor, to ensure superior thermal efficiency. Our engineers also integrated a cutting-edge solar-powered CO2 cooling system, which recycles energy for multiple functions like floor heating, hot water supply, and ice water generation. The system is monitored in real-time by adaptive maintenance technologies, ensuring energy efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.
With a strong track record of delivering reliable, high-quality engineering solutions, our team earned the client’s trust to handle such a comprehensive project. Our focus on cost efficiency and quality engineering allowed us to deliver a facility that not only met, but exceeded, all expectations for performance and safety.
For optimal performance, the building is equipped with CO2 cooling, a solar-powered energy management system, and efficient workflows. With an elevation of 800 millimeters above the original foundation and a 50 meter free span, the new structure offers both more space and added capacity.
Below is a detailed overview of all specifications and special features of this project.
The Fruechte Boqoui facility is finished with a focus on durability, hygiene, and efficiency. Hygienic ceramic floors ensure compliance with the highest food safety standards, while wall finishes are designed to facilitate easy maintenance and long-term, durable resilience.
The office spaces feature a modern, professional aesthetic. The 780 m² office space features hotel-quality interior finishing, creating a professional and welcoming atmosphere that combines luxury with functionality.
One of the standout features of this project is the innovative integration of an 800 millimeter raised foundation into a hillside, ensuring stability and maximizing usable space. Additionally, the 50 meter column-free span enables seamless workflows, while the solar-powered CO2 cooling system represents a leap forward in energy efficiency, recycling waste heat to power essential systems such as floor heating and hot water production.
This project incorporated advanced expertise, including 3D architectural and structural design, BIM integration modeling, prefabricated insulated construction, and free-span construction for seamless workflows.
