About the project

A groundbreaking logistics facility designed for efficiency, durability, and future scalability - Verbrugge Orange B is a milestone in bulk goods transport infrastructure.

In an impressive collaboration, IDB, on behalf of STM Group,  has completed a large-scale design project for Verbrugge Terneuzen. This project included the delivery of advanced steel structures, buildings, and the structure for a ship loader, which are essential for Verbrugge's logistics operations.

Thanks to IDB’s expertise in steel 3D Moddeling, a state-of-the-art infrastructure has been created that meets the highest standards of quality and sustainability. The ship loader, a crucial part of the project, ensures efficient and reliable cargo handling, significantly enhancing Verbrugge's operational capacity.

The successful completion of this project marks an important milestone in the collaboration between Meyland NV, STM Group, IDB and Verbrugge, highlighting their joint commitment to innovation and excellence in the industry.

The four project pillars

Full-service care

IDB managed the entire design process from start to finish. We developed both architectural and structural designs in-house. Steel components were produced at our sister company STAWI, integrating CPI corrugated plates from our sister company Corrugated Plate Industry. The project included the complete quay gallery and shiploader structure, including GVK stairs, platforms, and wall and roof cladding.

Process-focused design

The core feature of the project was its bulk goods conveyor, spanning 675 meters from the warehouse to the ship. By increasing handling capacity from 250 to 1000 tons per hour, the project significantly optimized logistics operations.

Future-proof innovation

Designed to the highest standards, the project incorporates a Sigma C5 Very High coating system and HPS200 Ultra Coating sandwich panels, ensuring durability and longevity.

Trust & safety

By working as a single design team with our contractor from the beginning, we streamlined decision-making and ensured that the 3D architectual and structural model  where completed within time and budget.

Facts & figures

This project presented unique challenges, such as limited space on the quay and oversized transport components requiring innovative assembly solutions. By opting for a modular structural design, major components could be prefabricated on the ground and lifted them into place as complete units, reducing construction time and costs.
